Dog Days’ Review

Posted: December 1, 2014 in Kevin's Anime Reviews
  • Setting & Story: Setting wise were back in the magical land of Floynard a unique place were war isn’t about killing or taking land but for boosting the economy and creating a festival like atmosphere. Unlike the previous installment of Dog Days it isn’t just Shinku in Floynard, Nanami and Rebecca also join him with each becoming a Hero for their respective factions Nanami with Leo and Rebecca with Couver. While there doesn’t seem to be an overarching story like in the original Dog Days there doesn’t need to be. ( The Show seems to be more about fun, Happiness, and Friendship so you really shouldn’t be watching this if you want a competent story.)
  • Sound: The OP and ED were both respectable in there own right and the OST kept the happy and light mood of the show, although none of the tracks beside the OP stood out on there own we did get bonus tracks in the form of “Concerts”.
  • Art & Animation: The Art style of the show was very light and bright which fit perfectly for what the show was going for the character designs were nice to look at and you usually didn’t get the run of the mill outfits usually each main character had several. Although when it came to the soldiers they were just a copy and paste of each other with varying colors the smiley faces didn’t help either. Animation was consistent during most scenes and great during any battle involving any of the main cast, but again starts to lack with the large scale battles involving their soldiers.
  • Characters and Character Development: From a character stand point this show is fairly unimpressive everyone seems to have the same personality and just wants to have a good time with their friends while I understand this is what the show was going for the characters didn’t feel cohesive with the exception of Eclair who seemed to have some problems involving her emotions for Shinku but those were quickly resolved with cheering and a fight scene. ( The Characters usually felt like a whole bunch of popular girls who secretly hated each other with how nice they were. )
  • Ending: Since there isn’t really a story to Dog Days the few plot holes that did exist were just left in the dust as the show went on it’s merry way. No one  seemed to develop but the episode itself was fairly enjoyable as it continued it’s happy theme.

Now hopefully you read all of that to choose whether or not you’re interested in this show, but in case you care more about numbers than words here ya go, also remember that this is my personal opinion of the show if something I said deterred you when you were already interested in the show don’t let it stop you from watching everyone has their own tastes so take everything i say with a grain of salt.
