Aldnoah.Zero Review

Posted: November 21, 2014 in Kevin's Anime Reviews
  • Setting & Story: After many years of war the Martian Empire of Vers sends Princess Assesylum  to Earth to form a peace treaty with the Terran’s.  After the assassination of the Princess war breaks out between the two races, and our main protagonist Inaho Kaizuka must combat the more advanced Martian machines who use the power of the Aldnoah which grant their machines unique abilities, while on the other side of the war the close friend of the Princess Slaine Troyard copes with the loss of the princess while deciding how to move forward. ( The main points that bothered me with the story were due to poorly explained scenes, and this being the general mech war anime, they threw a twist in the beginning with the desire for peace and the assassination of the Princess but overall it was who had the better mech contest. )
  • Sound: The overall sound for the show was great the Epic music during the action and emotional scenes boosted the mood greatly, while both the OP and ED suited the show well.
  • Art & Animation: The overall art style of the show was nice, I enjoyed how the Terran mechs which were supposed to be far inferior to the Martian machines seemed more industrial or warn down while in contrast to that the Martian Mechs looked polished and powerful. The animation was well enough in the action scenes nothing above average as far as animation is concerned nowadays in any of the other scenes. ( I personally hate CG but the show pulled it off pretty well. )
  • Characters & Character Development: For the most part the characters were boring as far as the main cast was concerned, we really never learn what really moves the characters and why they’re doing what they’re doing, Besides Slaine who is given back story, motivation, and desires. The supporting cast had a few decent members such as the war veteran with the dark past Kouichirou Marito or the Martian orphan Rayet Areash.
  • Ending: The Ending created more questions than It answered without giving a proper ending to the story, although it had an emotional and shocking ending it felt like they were preparing for the second season instead of concluding the first.

Now hopefully you read all of that to choose whether or not you’re interested in this show, but in case you care more about numbers than words here ya go, also remember that this is my personal opinion of the show if something I said deterred you when you were already interested in the show don’t let it stop you from watching everyone has their own tastes so take everything i say with a grain of salt.
